Bright: "It's always 2 out of 3.
ALWAYS.
fucking life."

Hahahahaha. I thought that was worth sharing. Sink Night is OVER, thank goodness, and I'm exhausted. Yay New Members and everyone who helped out! My hell week and a half is over, and I'm turning back into a human. Psh, only a midterm and a glossary due this week? I scorn you, pittance of work (that will probably only make one latenighter necessary. Bah).
Will post again when not exhausted.

Side note: Is it possible for someone to be too damn smart for you? I'm no mental midget and this isn't a complex, but I wonder if it's possible to meet someone you can respect and be interested in talking to and just not feel like you could keep up well enough! Thoughts?

Went out to work on the Green today. As it so often does, resolve disintegrated and I ended up playing with Annie and these two little girls and their pet bunny. Cutest bunny ever--nicest too (Hi, Murphy.). Bunny hopped around with no restraints on it, jumped in and out of our laps, ate a carrot, and generally looked cute. (Its name was Rolly.) And Tori and Minovie (6 and 4) and I played a little soccer, running around all over the place, and now my feet feel properly abused again. Ah, barefoot! Sweeping past them to turn the ball before they hit anyone or it rolled into the street, the grass still dry and rough and the gravel rougher, the softness of Rolly and the sharp gash of his claws...

Capitol Steps was soooo funny!!! It was really quite excellent, and so up to date. I think it was aimed at the Democratic crowd...of course, if there was a Democrat in the White House I'm sure that would be different. One of the guys did a great Bush impression though.

Fondue and AGORA were fun as well. Fondue for the food and company, Agora for the discussion material is provided afterwards. We (Bri, Chris, Missa, myself) solved the country's problems. Not bad.

Yesterday I went on a terrific walk with a new friend of mine. There's a tiny park near here, a memorial garden, that is one of the neatest places to just stumble across. Arranged like a Japanese garden, it had ponds and stones, birdhouses and a swing, a gazebo and some of the most interesting wooden furniture.
"Say the word 'wood' and love the 'd' in it, love the way it sounds like an axe thunking into a log." Daniel Villasenor, The Lake
Then we got onto the trail and wandered along by the river, stopping to sit and talk and look. It was lovely. Here's to the spring and meeting people through Rand! ;-)

And now a thunderstorm, echoing around campus. If I didn't have work to do I'd turn the lights off and watch it, although it's not dark enough...no, it'd have to be a drive down to the river, and we'd see if it's anything like watching lightning around you on the Sound with the rain smashing the windows and a good conversation or no conversation at all.

Hmm. I like thunder. Off to finish an essay and plan some stuff for the new members this week...

Week in Review:
But first, as I was just walking home from dropping off my paper (at 4:30, it wasn't due til five, so obviously I left myself plenty of leeway so when the printer jammed at 4:10 it was not a heart stopping event), these three kids on bikes are trying to cross the road. Traffic stops, one of them scoots across, leaving the others. As I'm walking by, I hear one of them yell. Instinctively I whirl around, ready to tackle a bike if it's heading into the now moving traffic, but they've just stopped and are yelling at their friend for going ahead. I smile at the little girl, and she says, "Fudge! I said Fudge! I meant to say Fudge!"

Went to America Reads for the first time. The girl I'm working with is on vacation and won't be back for a week, but I read with second grader Brendan. I thought he was going to be a major handful based on how he was in the classroom, but as soon as we got into the library he was perfect. And a good reader, so I just had to help him out over the hard stuff and explain what was going on a little. He was such an imp, though, even when he was being totally good--he looked just like second-grade Brian.

Photography: I took a few really interesting looking pictures and a bunch of overexposed and underexposed shots. Little disappointing, but just fine for a first manual roll. And I think I figured out a lot better what I did *right*, so hopefully I'll be able to do that again!

Gave a class presentation Monday that was supposed to be 10-15 minutes, and due to the prof's tangents and the class discussion, ended up staying up there for an hour and a half. Either because I was too emotionally drained to be nervous or because I'm gaining inner poise (yeah brigit), I had no nerves up there.

Side note: When one is blitzed by a friend who one knows needs to find out what one is thinking, one should blitz her back. Even if it's just to say one needs some time to think or one is not up to talking right now.

Also wrote a bio abstract and two separate papers for my Feminism class. Now I have two more papers due next week. It's going to be another crazy week.

I was also a Greeter for the college, welcoming kids and their parents looking at the school. It was fun! I think the main point is to answer questions for nervous mothers and let the kids see a friendly, smiling face they can tie to the school. I think I'll do it again at some point.

Saw the Passion. Thought the special effects were stupid. The screaming devil? The foggy garden? The temple splitting in two like a bad horror movie? Well, I was underwhelmed by that part. I thought its best effect was showing how cruel people can be to one another, and how few brave, honest people who stand up for what they believe in there really are. How could anyone enjoy inflicting pain like that on someone else? That was the real significance to me, not as much the religious aspects.

Aaah. End of an era. Took me two and a half weeks, but I forgot to set my alarm right and woke up at 9:45 (and only b/c Missa left for class) when I had class at 10. So no hair drying and showering before class. Oh well. It was nice while it lasted. Last night pulled the first all nighter since the summer to get in one of the papers. However, it was not a pure allnighter and doesn't really count, since, although I did go to bed at five, I didn't get back up until 11.

Went to a lecture on the Sexual Abuse of Boys. The speaker was really good. Sadly, though, there were about 20 women and five men. And four of the women, one of the men, were all from the Feminism class I'm taking right now. Shouldn't more people have been interested? Shouldn't more MEN have been interested? Anyway, some of it was really interesting and good for people to know.

Had another Rand discussion group. Although only the most interested people showed up...everyone else said they'd come next week, so we'll see. At any rate, it was terrifically fun discussion and interaction. I love smart people!

At 4:39 I had an epiphany and realized that the pretentious word "posit" that I was using in my paper is connected to the "position" one takes on an issue. Yes, I'm a dork, but I'd never thought about it. Everyone else who was still awake was similarly impressed. If you're going to pull an allnighter, the way to go is really to also have your roomie have a big paper due the next day, so you can mess around, encourage each other, distract each other, and feed each other. And have other people working on stuff too, and constantly blitz-distract each other.

Bachlorette meetings were this week...yay to everyone who dressed up! Lingerie is fun.

And YAAAAY NEW MEMBERS!!!! Theta did super well this term. Out of 23 people we offered bids to, 22 came back to bid acceptance to express serious interest, and 14 have already signed their bid cards, with more on their way. And so many of the girls I really enjoyed signed! And now I'm going to be New Member Ed, I'll really get a chance to get to know the awesome women we're adding to the house. I'm very excited.

And now off to AGORA for a discussion on gay marriage...then to Fondue Party at the House (yum!), then mayhap a movie, mayhap TriKap dance party, mayhap work, mayhap bed. We shall see...

I am so busy!! I'm sorry for neglecting, but I was always on the go this last week.

Let's see...I went to my first photography class, which looks like it'll be really neat. Last weekend earned the nickname "Dancing Queen" out with the Thetas. (WOOT!) Melissa and I held the first meeting of our Ayn Rand Discussion Group, and it went so well! 9 people showed up, and everyone was so interesting. The conversation was great--people were really listening to each other and questioning. It was awesome. Went to a COSO meeting to see about getting recognized. Went to kickboxing. Went to three baseball games. (Swept both Penn, lost the first to Colombia and were winning the second when I just left. Mike pitched great!) Met with a professor and had a great talk. Went to Rush and had a GOOD time again. (My intro: "Hi. What do you love?" made for real conversation instead of, "what's your D plan and major?" I met so many girls I want!) Went to Cabinet. Went to wine tasting. (Liked the pinot grigio better than the Shiraz, surprisingly.) Went out for Jags' birthday, had a great dinner, and sang karaoke in a bar with the townies. Was dragged out dancing last night and tore up the floor with Jags. (Tonight we're at it again!) Spent two hours telling funny high school stories with the girls in Lone Pine. Went to all my classes, still got up in time to shower and dry hair every morning! (Miracle.) Next week all my volunteer stuff starts up, and we have pref night and bid acceptance. Ack! I have four huge things due this week and no time. (OK, yes, I'd have more time if I didn't dance or go to baseball, but those are just details.) On the agenda: start volunteering, run at least once, write a few letters, get papers done, keep going to class. ;-)

Weekly report:
Went to class every day, on time or early. Stayed after and actually talked to a prof. Showered AND blew hair dry before class every day. Finished reading a day ahead for each class, and reviewed it before class time. Went shopping, and bought many groceries that will help me not starve. Bought flowers for room. Went to see the documentary Spellbound. Went to a discussion on whether or not "under God" belongs in the Pledge. Participated. Blitzed out about interest in an Atlas club. Got twenty interested people. Went to a contemporary dance performance, Dayton. Stayed for discussion with dancers afterward. Had lunch and dinner with lots of interesting people, and actually blitzed people ahead of time to invite them. Went to bed before 2 every day except tonight (and it's Friday so that's ok). Went to Walmart. Had an amazing conversation with my incredible roomie Missa. Decided to move to Italy for a year or two at some point in my life. Cleaned my room. Saw Master and Commander (again, but it's still good!). Tomorrow, will decorate for Rush and go to Rush. Yay! Productive first week, in which all objectives were met. I think it will be fun to see how quickly things disintegrate. Maybe we can have a pool? Place bets? What do you think?

Question of the day: is it possible to have a mature relationship with someone you've stopped dating?
I believe it is. This is partly a function of my damned, damned inability to hold a grudge or stay mad. Partly just a sincere belief that when you like someone enough to want to date them, you probably like them enough to be friends too. Maybe after an initial cooling off period, but still. For instance: Vac. Unless we get married, we're never dating again, but we talk almost every day, know WAY too much about each other and each other's lives, and he is truly a best friend. This even though senior year he wrote death threats to boys I talked to after we broke up. Was it because we weren't that serious? We're both essentially good natured? Loved each other enough, were friends first, never saw each other naked? What's the factor that makes it so hard for people to be friends, or even friendly?

Anyway. Spellbound, great documentary, highly recommended.

Gah, too much class today. Grody. AND I went to a career services thing and am just as confused about my future. Wah. But had dinner and movie with my dorky, beloved girls, and it was terrific. Both watching it and watching it with them. I love Dartmouth.

RUSH this weekend. I'm excited, although it takes way too much time. I like meeting the girls, and spending time with the sisters, and being enthusiastic. I hope we get wonderful women--I'm pledge ed!

And I think I'm going to go read or play for a while. All objectives are still on. Nice. :-D

Goodness, I have been remiss.
Well, TTBHA are taking a little break, but they'll be back. I just don't have word open right now and I'm not up to it.
So...classes look good, social life looks good, theta looks AWESOME.
Goals of term:
1. Stay on top of shit. This is huge. And if I can do it for more than three days (with the help of iCal) it will hugely change my life.
2. Meet lots of people. Already met people. Going to meet lots more. And start an Atlas club. Yay.
3. Get good grades. Mostly just part of staying on top of shit.
4. Volunteer. For more than two hours a week. I used to spend that much time playing Snood, it should be possible.
5. Do cultural things. Included in this are movies, dance recitals, plays, concerts, documentaries, etc. Already have movies, concert, documentary, and dance scheduled as of this weekend.
6. Look cute. Ie, don't wear Dartmouth sweatshirt to class every day. Wear some of the cute clothes you own. This objective is really a first two weeks objective, after which time going to class wearing whatever becomes objective 6.
I think that's plenty...there were more but tonight were St. Paddy's meetings, featuring Guinness (why don't people like guinness?), Bailey's (self explanatory), and lime sherbert punch, and I have to say I got a lil buzzed. And then stopped by Sig Ep and Chi Gam in search of objective 2. Now I'm going to bed to stay on top of objectives 1 and 3.
Thetalove!
